Do you experience allergies, constipation, diarrhea, skin problems, headaches, fatigue, halitosis, stomach bloat, lower backache, poor digestion, gas, sluggishness (especially after meals), weight gain, and depression.  If so, you may be one of the millions of people suffering from colon problems.  The colon is one of the most neglected parts of the body.  Did you know that even in small quantities, many poisons from a toxic colon could age and destroy your body? If you do not eliminate properly, weight loss is impossible.

This year, almost two million more people will be diagnosed with colon disease.  The average person carries 7 to 25 pounds of dried fecal matter logged in the intestinal tract.  Food transit time for a person on a typical western diet ranges between 75 and 100 hours.   Poisons, parasites, germs, and worms accumulate on the walls of the colon from decaying fecal matter and excess mucus.  Every cell and tissue in the body is fed by the bloodstream, which is affected by the colon via the portal vein and the mesentery.  When the colon is toxic, so are all the other organs and tissues of the body.   The colon must be cleaned before any effective healing can begin.  It’s just like trash; it must be emptied regularly!  If not, constipation and purification develops.  A normal colon is about 5 feet long and 2.5 inches in diameter.  Autopsies have shown that a person’s colon was 9 inches in diameter, and there was passage the size of a pencil.

The colon secretes a natural layer of mucous to assist feces in passage.  Problems occur when extra mucus hardens on the wall of the colon like glue and becomes infested with unwanted organisms which do not drain properly causing auto-intoxication.  Healthy bowel movements should be two inches in width and approximately 12”- 18” long occurring at least 1 to 3 times daily based on the amount of meals you eat.  Colon problems and the subject of elimination are not the most popular topics of conversation, yet millions of people are concerned.  The news media constantly informs us of current statistics and accounts of people who suffer from colon related problems.  Stop and think about what is going on and what you can do for yourself.

ACIDOPHILUS

Acidophilus is a friendly bacteria located in the bowel.  The amount of friendly bacteria in the bowel determines a person health.  Bacteria in the colon are similar to the flowers in a garden.  In order for the flowers to grow, the soil must be prepared, nourished, and have a correct pH. pH refers to the acidity or alkalinity of a substance.  The same holds true for acidophilus.  The conditions must be acidic for growth.  The first acidophilus introduced into a baby is from the colostrum in mother’s milk.  The colostrum provides friendly bacteria for the development of the infant’s immune system.  Digestion and assimilation are aided when proper amounts of acidophilus are present.  Acidophilus passes easily through the stomach and adheres to the walls of the intestines, because the digestive juices of the stomach are underdeveloped.  This is the main reason why women should breast feed their newborn to create this acidic condition within the infant.  Milk from animals creates mucous which is alkaline. This brings about health problems at an early age.

Problems that arise from insufficient acidophilus are bloating, intestinal toxicity, and improper absorption of nutrients.  These conditions can lead to recurrent yeast infections, candida, and chronic fatigue.  Undigested food can stagnate and lead to constipation and gas. The putrefactive bacteria that are produced from undigested food can produce excessive histamine, causing allergic reactions and additional toxic buildup.

Acidophilus protects us from Escherichia Coli (E-Coli), which causes cancer to form in the colon.  Birth control pills, penicillin, antihistamines, antibiotics (also in animal meats), sulfa drugs, coffee, and excessive flushing of the colon with enemas and colonics destroy acidophilus.  A stool that floats in water, is soft but firm and amber color with little or no odor is a sign of a healthy colon flora (flora means flower).  A normal healthy individual should have 85% lacto-bacillus and 15 % coliform bacteria in the colon.  This is found reversed in unhealthy people.

Colitis, Ileitis, Diverticulitis, Crohn's Disease, Hemorrhoids, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are the many diseases that affect at least 32 million people.  They are the leading cause of hospitalization in the U.S.A.  IBS is the #1 digestive problem and rivals the common cold in both medical cost and work loss.  Synthetic Laxatives are Not the Answer!  Prolonged use of synthetic laxatives can disrupt the colon’s natural peristaltic movement.  More than 40 million Americans spend $500,000 on the average for laxatives.  This annual cost does not include the millions of dollars spent on bulking agents such as metamucil.

Colon Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S.  100,000 people die annually from Colon Cancer.  Diets low in fiber, incorrect food combinations, drinking excessively with meals, cooked foods, enzymeless food, and lack of nutrition are some potentiators for this deadly disease.

COLOSTOMY

100,000 people have colostomies each year!  This is a surgical procedure requiring the removal of a portion of the colon.  The individual must then eliminate through an opening on the side of his/her body into an attached pouch.  This pouch is emptied and cleansed several times a day.   Doctors who practice preventative medicine believe this drastic surgery could be prevented by a nutritional approach.

WELL KNOWN INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE OR HAD COLON PROBLEMS:

Former President Ronald Reagan - Due to the publicity concerning Ronnie’s colon cancer, the general public is very aware of this serious subject.  Many people are eating better and examining the natural approach to prevent colon cancer.

Joe Carcioni - The news of the famous "Green Grocer" has shocked many of his viewers because he died as a result of colon cancer.

John Wayne - Autopsy revealed that John Wayne's colon weighed 82 pounds.  77 pounds were composed of dried fecal matter. The remaining 5 pounds was living tissue.

Elvis Presley - A Memphis, Tennessee newspaper reported on August 28, 1977 that Elvis Presley had been hospitalized for 32 days with an impacted colon. One year later he was dead. Reporting on his death the Knight News Wire stated, "Presley was found dead at 2:30 P.M. August 16, green pajama bottoms around his ankles, face down on the red shag rug in front of the toilet. He had been dead for several hours. Medical investigators believe his last act had been, in their terms, “straining at the stool” the rarely mention cause of 1 in 20 deaths.”

COLITIS

Inflammation of the colon.  This ailment is known as ulcerative colitis.  A less serious ailment is mucous colitis.  Mucous colitis is a chronic infection of the mucous membrane of the colon.  This is characterized by colicky pain, constipation, diarrhea, and the presence of mucous in the stools.  Ulcerative colitis has the same symptoms as mucous colitis except that the lining of the colon is ulcerated and more painful and resistant to healing measures.  Chronic ulcerative colitis begins in the recto-sigmoid area but if the ulceration extends upward, the stools become looser.  The patient may have severe cramps and distressing rectal straining.  The stools may contain watery feces with pus, blood, and mucous.

DIVERTICULA

Diverticula disease of the colon is a serious bowel disturbance leading to many difficulties and must be avoided.  These sacs or diverticula are open in one end.  Feces accumulate within them and hold matter in which a variety of very unfavorable organisms can begin to breed.  The sacs become sources of infection, inflammation and degenerative conditions.  They are also the host for the production of powerful toxins, adding to an overburdened and toxic body.  When these diverticula become inflamed and irritated it becomes diverticulitis.  If one of these festering sacs produce a rupture, the poisonous substances will go rapidly into the abdominal cavity where infection can spread quite quickly.

STRICTURED BOWEL

Usually occurs after an inflammatory disease such as colitis.  It is a chronic narrowing of the passageway that often results in the backing up of feces that are unable to pass through.

HEMORRHOIDS

Occurs when the sigmoid portion of the colon and the rectum are backed up.  The mucus membrane becomes dry and the feces are unable to pass naturally.  This results in the person attempting to force the feces out and veins protrude from straining.  The pain is irritating and sensitive.
